Two everyday women meet with sports, fitness & wellness personalities from Asia and the Pacific region to unravel lesser-told life stories – those about people living with non-communicable diseases like diabetes, chronic kidney disease or Alzheimer’s, what some call Type III. I’m one of those everyday women and also a caregiver to my 76-year old mum who has dementia and 30% kidney function, the aunt who plays part-time soccer mum, home cook and a stay-at-home co-founder of a media scaleup. I usually sleep at 3am and am awake by 8.15am to start the day.

“So if you’re that busy already, why start this podcast?”

It’s something I’m doing for me. I just needed to. It’s my creative outlet. And I think I’ve found something I really really like doing. I hope you’ll give it a listen and drop me a message — let me know what you think!

The podcast is styled as a documentary and we’ll keep on producing it from its raw state into a Redifussion-inspired, raw-as-can-be chit-chat with athletes, medical doctors, allied health professionals, the fitness & wellness world — could it be you perhaps? I co-host this show with my fitness coach and BFF Nikki Yeo so bring yer cuppa tea and join us! In Malaysia, the Teh Tarik is pulled to a frenzy, made frothy by swift hand movements of the tea-pulling expert and then whisk in 8 tsp of condensed milk in one regular cup. Every order I make of this drink, follows with a reminder, “Kurang kurang manis ya, boss”…

How it all began

Jasmine & Nikki at the AIDC Melbourne, pitching the film idea.

The Kurang Manis project began as a film pitch. It was awarded a special prize at the 2019 Script-to-Screen Workshop Malaysia co-organised by Motion Picture Association — Asia Pacific, Wildsnapper TV & FINAS with judges, U-Wei Bin Haji Saari, Stephen Jenner & Jason van Genderen and guided by filmmaker Tan Chui Mui. A production by Asiafitnesstoday.com, co-produced by Jasmine Low & Nikki Yeo, filmmaker mentor Jules Ong, sound engineering mentor Werner Theunissen, technical engineer Sydney Podcast Studios. Read more about KURANG MANIS impact project here.

The Kurang Manis Podcast is created, written, produced & co-hosted by Nikki Yeo in Kuala Lumpur & Jasmine Low in Sydney — two everyday people who just want to make a change in the world starting with themselves. Plus, of course, find a way out for Jasmine from her pre-diabetic disposition. Will she win the race? Time will tell.

Small bites, large strides!
